Looking at Aussie membership rates recently I was struck by how expensive they seemed, but then I converted them to pounds and it didn't seem so bad;) Attending rate for Redemption in a couple of weeks is £60, or $150 for a three day con. We paid about $110 when we signed up at the end of the last one two years ago. Fairly comparable, but the key point is that it's being held in deepest, darkest Leicestershire. I gather nobody runs big cons in London any more because it just got too expensive (fine by us in Glasgow), but it's a bit like running a con in Albury-Wodonga and telling people not to think of it as being inconvenient for Melbourne fans, but rather equally convenient for Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney fans.
You could probably run a nice cheap con in A-W :-)
