When you know a lot of people, it's impossible to keep them all in mind. The best you can do is give them your full attention when you're with them. As mentioned, I have a couple that are a near constant background hum. There's a few others that get thought of every few days to a week. Beyond that, most people get a brief two-second 'I wonder...' around once a month.
I'm also distractable, and these days that's more of an issue than it used to be. I visited a friend the other night, and at around the 2-hour mark knew I should head home. Headed home about two hours after that. Paid for it the next day, and couldn't go to something else I'd wanted to go to.
Of course, the last time I missed one thing for another, I didn't get to either.
And what was important to me was to give my friend some good, one-on-one, quality time. I did that and don't regret it one bit.
