I cannot fathom how this procedure can cause these outcomes in any but the most unbalanced or already vulnerable, and there are more important issues there than what are being discussed here. (Then again, maybe I'm one of the few who is comfortable with who I am...)

I also totally agree with the point regarding the shoe-horning of feelings by western male culture into a small never-to-be opened box. This is far more likely to cause the issues above than what ends up being blamed for it. Maybe the baby is being thrown out with the bathwater after all.
