The connection hadn't occurred to me until a couple of months ago, when I was walking through the CBD at about 6.15 pm in broad daylight and almost nothing was open (in fact, there were already nuns in Forrest Place giving out free coffee or soup, on the assumption that anyone still in the city at that hour must be homeless), and I wondered whether this was a deliberate ploy for longer trading hours.
To be fair, the pubs are always busy when I leave the shop at about the same hour. It's just the mall area that resembles a ghost town.
