Human Sexuality

Danny

A friend of mine in Canberra has been blogging extensively about her labia tearing painfully and then the process of seeing a GP and a (unhelpful) gynaecologist about it, and then seeing a (helpful) gynaecologist, preparing/researching and planning the surgery, having labia reduction surgery, and her recovery process. It’s all rather medical and gruesome, but I thought you might be interested because of your broad spectrum interest in human sexuality – she talks about how painful/fragile labia affect sexuality, and about how many women with normal labia become self concious about them because the labia in porn magazines are either airbrushed or the models are surgically altered or naturally unusually small.

I asked her if I could send you the link and she said that was fine – she’s planning on writing an article for a glossy women’s magazine about it, with photos.

She suggested you start at this link

but her LJ is full of dozens of labia-related posts. (It’s a good resource if ever anyone talks to you about their labia).

(She’s also a damn nice person, very happy and bubbly, writes comics, and is involved in trade union/workers rights issues for a living. And she lives in Canberra. You’d adore her – hopefully you’ll get to meet her when you move up here.)
