Special people

Last day or two I've been going through one of those periods I regularly go through, where I feel quite deeply the influence people have had on my life, and my appreciation of them. Some of them are folks that I don't see or talk to very often at all, but just knowing they are out there does wonders for me. They brighten my day just by existing.

So the last day or so, I've sent out SMSes. There are a lot of people I miss by sending out SMSes, and not emails, but I know I'll never get around to emails. An SMS is 160 letters, I don't have room to think too much or to ramble on, and I'm usually too cheap to do longer ones.

I've learned from previous experience not to just send most people messages saying things like 'You're very special to me, and I want to thank you for your friendship over the years,' because then I get worried messages and phonecalls back from people who are suddenly concerned that I'm dying or that something else is seriously wrong.

It's kind of a shame that so many people associate open shows of love and appreciation with disaster, rather than take it for what it is - a desire to let someone know just how much mean to me. Then again, as far as I'm aware, most people don't think a complimentary message from me means that I'm after something, which is the other way people tend to read unexpected compliments.

Oh I've sent some Cock! SMSes, which is the shorthand version of 'I'm thinking of you/like you/appreciate you/miss you/think we should play Mr. Wobbly Hides His Helmet together/want to hang with you/you rock/etc.' but sometimes I just need to write a bit more. Hard as it may be to believe, sometimes my Cock! just isn't enough to show my true appreciation... Strange but true!

Sometimes I feel the very strong need to tell someone that they are an incredibly awesome person (Mitch), or that their friendship means a lot (Mondy), or that I fancy them something rotten (Guttermonkey, a hot-tub filled with lard and hundreds & thousands, and a copy of the Kaled Karma Sutra).

I do it because I need to say these things. It's who I am, I like to show appreciation. But I also think people need to hear them sometimes too. And I think it's especially nice when it comes out of the blue, for no other reason than someone thinks you're great.

So why not do it yourself. Send someone (not me) a brief message telling them... something! It can be appreciation for who they are, or things that they've done for you or other people. But do it! You don't have to wait for a reason, the fact that they are your friend and great should be reason enough.

Of ya go, ya buggers. Get writing!

I received one of your Cock! Sms'es few weeks ago, it made my day :-) ... after that is, l got over the shock of actually receiving an SMS. Now of course in my reply l didn't actually *say* it made my day.. but l should have.

Oh and as to your suggestion, will be sending an email out to an old uni friend who l rarely get to see these days...

Yay! That's the spirit. Hopefully she'll like it and not think you're dying :D

I've been told I have uncannily good timing with my messages. I just think any day is greatly improved by my little cock.

Actually just got one from Milla Jovovich, and she wasn't referring to an SMS. Paul Anderson is going to be pissed off and that makes it much better! ;-P

I agree that there isn't enough of this in the world. Random acts of emotion tend to scare people and it's something I know I really should work on more.

And I have to say I really appreciate your txt's as well.
They make me smile and laugh, and it's nice to know that someone is thinking of me :)

So thank you! I probably haven't said that enough.

Got your Cock'o'Luv the other day. My phone has no credit so I couldn't cock you back. Thanks, it made me warm and fuzzy inside rather than the usual warm and squishy.
