It would appear that while we were away, the storms in Canberra actually managed to flood my semi-underground lair, destroying around 75% of my comics collection! This is fantastic news!

Oh... wait...

Hmmm...

Well, on the bright side, I suppose I don't have to move them all now.

Late note - I should add I only saw the wet boxes from the outside, and haven't looked within. I might yet have only sustained minimal losses.

wow, that really sucks.. but look on the bright side, you can now say to people "Sure, I had that ultra-rare comic but it got destroyed in the great flood of 2010". No -one will ever be able to disprove your story!

I'll have to check through properly to see what's been taken out. Anything still readable I'll be happy. Things that will hurt if they are lost are my early Valiant comics, Batmans, Supermans, etc.

I've checked the office many time through very heavy rain and some minor flooding - no problem before.

I do have some rare stuff, just need to see what, if any, of it has been hurt.

But I buy comics I like, so even if the rare stuff is damaged, if it's still readable I'll be happy.

I had a stroke 4 1/2 years ago and can still walk and talk.

I have 2 fit and healthy children, and a wonderful wife.

I got to work for a little while on an animated series of Doctor Who for BBC Wales R&D, and I've had 3 DW short stories published.

I have a very large group of very supportive friends across Australia who wouldn't hesitate to help me out in almost any situation.

I think I've had a *lot* of lucky breaks :D

I'm just laughing about it now. I love my comics and haven't had the spare money to buy any in ages, but if I've lost a huge chunk of the collection (haven't had time or been game to look in the boxes today), it's small potatoes compared to some of the other stuff this week.

This was just bad luck, a chunk of the crap this week has been from malicious and ignorant fools.

Insurance is one thing. Finding a replacement is quite another. I hope they are all OK.
We've got Sandman 1-75 in comics, graphic novel (hard and soft) and Absolute editions. Keep thinking we'll get rid of the comics (as they are, by far, the worst printed and bound) because we have the stories many times over but a little voice, what remains of my collector psyche, keeps saying no.

The mean thing is I waited a full year before I moved them in there. Checked for leaks, checked after really heavy rain, and have always made sure to keep the drain in front of the office clear.

I cleared the drain shortly before we headed to Melb, but the winds and rain blew down enough crap in that short space of time that it blocked enough for the water to back up into the office.

3-4 more weeks, that stuff wouldn't have been in there.

On the bright side, I'm pretty sure none of the stock stored down there has been hit.

I just read that most of them are salvagable, at least for reading purposes, so that's a relief. Tim and I are the same about our collection - we buy them cos we like to read 'em. :)
