Star Trek TOS did this a lot, too - the ultimate example possibly being 'Let that Be Your Last Battlefield' in which one alien arrived in a stolen Federation shuttle and the other beamed onto the bridge, simply because they didn't have the budget for any alien spaceships (though they made up for this with a brilliant use of news footage of the Watts riots as the aftermath of an alien genocidal civil war).
'Lost in Space' also cheated in the same way, Irwin Allen once notoriously exploding that rather than spend $5000 on a spaceship, he'd have the alien walk onto the planet.
