And sinceangriest is doing a poll about Angriest Video Store Clerk regarding webcomic models and patronage, and I've had a few people tell me they miss my polls, I thought I'd do a poll on podcasting. I doubt very much I'd do it, but hey, if I did this might at least give me some direction.

No, not that sort of help, you bastards! I'm stuck. Genuinely stuck.
You see, just after Lex was born, we looked at his birth certificate and Sharon asked, "What are you going to put down for yourself as 'Occupation?'"
Without pause, and in a tone of voice that implied that it was a weird question, I replied, "Drover."
Then realised what I'd said. I haven't been a drover for over 15 years, but it's still so tied up in my identity that it's who I feel I am. So then I started thinking about it.
What is my occupation?
Strictly speaking I run a small business, but that's not who I am except from the perspective of wanting other people to be able to get this stuff too. It's what I do to stay sane given I've yet to defeat my inability to write fiction since the stroke.
I can fit into a box, but there'll be a lot of me sticking out the cracks and over-flowing the top.
One of my running gags has been that I should just put down Work of Art, because my life is my canvas and I just keep playing with it. You know, Bastard in the phone book, Danger as a middle name, always playing to the crowd, even when they aren't there...
Some may say 'This is Lex's Birth Certificate, he won't thank you for putting something silly on there,' and they may be right. But you know, every time I look at my birth certificate and see under occupation for my dad 'Slaughterman/Drover' it brings a palpable sense of who my father really was back to me.
And I'd kind of like Lex to have the same thing...
And let's face it, if he has my sensibilities, there's not much I could put down that would bother him.

Given that I've been needy, emotional, weepy, and throwing myself on the mercy of my closer friends for hugs, affection, etc., I've found myself wondering how other people regard hugs and cuddles. For me they are a lovely way to spend time with people I trust, but what about you?

So, today for the second time this year, I told someone in all seriousness that they needed to get away from the job they hate and cross the Nullarbor with me.
"I'm going next week, come with me!"
In both cases I figured the person would actually benefit from it. Away from home for about a week, out of contact for good chunks of it, seeing the size and scope of what's out there... Being reminded that there are different, more rewarding, and often more interesting ways to live. You don't have to want to do them, but knowing they exist changes your perspective. To have the freedom to think about what's going on in your life without all the niggling reminders, distractions and doubts that try to convince you that you really can't leave that job and/or life you hate.
Everyone one should do a long slow trip to somewhere in Australia. It opens your mind in interesting new directions if you let it. Though not everybody should do it with me. Some wouldn't cope with me, some I would kill before we got halfway across.
So now, because it's much in my mind (Three days! Eeep!) I present the "Do the Nullabor with Danny" ( poll! )

So, I went to bed before 9:30 tonight because I was exhausted and had to be up early in the morning to go to Canberra Fertility. I fell asleep wonderfully quickly, only to awake at 11 because I was too hot. I've been awake since. *grumble*

Today I took mum shopping, took the dog for a walk, cleaned a little, answered some emails, played dominoes with mum, mailed off some stuff to some customers, watched last night's episode of Smallville, ate an apple, had a shower and shave (arrrgh, my face hurts!), and watered the garden.
I considered doing a 100 Days post, but realised I have hardly any easy/short topics left, and I'm not up to anything in-depth. I foolishly used most of the light stuff in the first 50, so when I feel tired now, it's harder to do a post. Go back and read the ones you've missed :)
But I've had a fair day, pushed myself pretty hard, but have accomplished some things. Yay me. Tired now.

So was it worth it?
The My Sexuality Post has gotten a good response. Between 200 and 300 hits since it went up two days ago! And 16 comments so far, ranging from the polite "well done", through "There's so much here I get", and "I wish you'd been my friend while I was learning about sex," to "I really want to talk to you about so much stuff." Some people are taking the chance to open up, which is good. I've always tried to make time for those that need someone to talk about most things, but especially so if the subject is sex or relationships. There's been some great comments.
One person inferred that I'm a great essayist, or at least becoming one. Wow.
So yes. The post was very much worth it. And I'd like to thank everyone who read it and commented, because, well, it's a bloody big ask, ten thousand words. I often look at LJ posts that go for more than a page and cringe.
It's also nice because there are a few friends on this LJ where the idea that they don't know this much about me is just kind of weird. Not because they have been intimately involved with me or anything, but because they are such a big part of my life, even if I don't see them often. I trust them and care about them, so it's nice to share some of what has turned me into the man I am today, with the people who in their own way have influenced that.

I'm trying to accurately reflect myself and the sorts of liasions I've had over the years, which means a poll simply listing sexual situations and asking if someone wanted to do me was never going to be an option.
I'm fine with intimacy at all sorts of levels with various different people. What feels right or comfortable varies from person to person, and changes over time. There are folks where I've had a more teacherly role, where the idea of things being done for me was never an option. There have been people where they wanted more but what I needed was less about sex than it was about needing to be close. I'm fine with casual nudity as well, though it takes me a while to stop automatically averting my eyes. So the concept of cuddling naked in bed, with no sex expected or needed, had to fit in there too.
So the poll tries to progress from just subjects to talk about, to levels of intimacy that are non-sexual like handshakes, building to the sexual, then on to actual sex questions. From there I'll probably also throw in a few things that can be incredibly caring/intimate/sensual, but not necessarily sexual, like showering together or massage.

Went to bed and shortly afterwards my legs started hurting like mad, so now three hours later, I've both given and gotten up since the pain's not letting me sleep. Rare it's that bad, fortunately.
