I like to believe in people's basic goodness, until they disappoint me. Then I rant, rave, and hope that they may grow, learn and change, and try to give them that opportunity. And most disappoint me again. But I'd rather believe in people's goodness than not.
I'm just like that. Stupid but happy :)
I don't see it as people not wishing to be exposed to happiness, some people just find some things more confronting than others, and I don't see a point in making them uncomfortable if it doesn't impact on my life.
There's an awful lot of people who push matters further than they should under the pretext of being more 'open-minded', who belittle those who aren't as 'liberated' while shouting about their own freedom to do as they wish. What good is being liberated if you only use it to make other people uncomfortable? Trod on their freedom to make a point about your own? When liberation becomes bullying, then no-one is free.
