I was uneasy admiting that I punched my girlfriend's arm, the idea still makes my skin crawl. And some people have a kneejerk reaction.
At the same time, I'm big on equality, and I'm a pragmatist. I deserve better treatment that to be injured over something trivial, and asking her to stop did no good, because she always feel back on her excuse about losing control. So I gave her a reason to learn control.
Talking about my dad was also iffy, again because of the kneejerk thing. The people that do these things aren't necessarily evil or bad. My dad had a huge heart. He also had a temper. There were stressors that led to his behaviour.
It's worth noting, he never once tried to stop me punching him. Never once in the situations where he was hitting mum, did he try to hit me or stop me, no matter how drunk and out of control he was.
I don't know if it was because he couldn't bring himself to hit me, or he wanted punishment for doing something that he normally thought of as wrong.
