As for me, aside from self defence, I don't see men hitting men as being particularly more acceptable than any of the other gender combinations. Hmm.. though when I was 16 I did slap a guy across the face who'd been verbally abusing me for months (may have been the occasional shove as well, I can't remember). He stopped being so much of a problem after that. *ponder*
