Sharon's grandfather is Alexander, and my grandmother was Alexandrovna, so we originally figured on one of those two, depending on the gender, and if the baby felt like an Alexander. He doesn't feel quite like an Alexander, but he does feel like a Lex. Turns out Alexander was also mum's uncle's name.
As to references I do tend to think of Lex Luthor from Superman, Alexander the Great, Alexander De Large from Clockwork Orange, and the Lexx, from Lexx. Lexx is the inspiration for the new Lex icon.
I actually like Xander. When I first heard it I thought it was an interesting variant. But Buffy's buggered the name for a little while.
