Blakes 7 is an english program, and in the 60-70s englishmen were still known by their surnames only - my father wasnt called by his first name at work until he came to Australia. Whilst I agree it is an indication of perceived status, it is worth looking at it from the "other side". I doubt he was even aware of it - although the standing of the womens parts might bear more evaluation. Its a very bloke-centric series. (Also typical of SF at the time in UK.)
