The whole story is a complete rule-breaker. Historicals were about history, you didn't get aliens in history. The TARDIS is a one-off. You can't change history... Everything the audience has learned over the last couple of years gets turned on its head.
I'm looking forward to introducing Lex to Doctor Who from the beginning (I'm planning on starting him out on a good mix of colour and B&W TV shows and movies), for just this sort of reason. Tell him nothing about what's to come and let him discover it fresh for himself.
