Audioscape - Flies, birds, flies, the sea, flies, the wind, flies; Karno screaming abuse at flies; snoring; Soundtrack to Spirits of the Air, Gremlins of the Clouds.

Got up at 5:30am to try and catch sunrise at the old pier. Got distracted by the telegraph station for a little while, then hit the pier. Climbed up onto the old ruined structure and then walked down most of it's length, mainly because I haven't before. Couldn't go all the way, the wood looked too far gone, but may be tempted to next time.
I'm not worried about the fall, or bits of wood scratching me, it's the water. I can't swim, nor do I wish to be clean. Mind you, I wouldn't mind dying here...

Sidenote, Karno walking through the water with his pants rolled up - he is the embodiment of an anthropomorphised wading bird. All he needed to be doing was to be dipping his head into the water looking for things to eat. I took a picture, but you really had to be there to appreciate his avian beauty.

I must say, Karno is very patient with my photographing things. No reason he shouldn't be but I do know some folks who would be getting annoyed with me over it. Doesn't even seem to mind me following him into the bathroom, snapping away. He even brought me a cool beetle he found drowned in the swimming pool so I could take some pics of it. And after being handled by two deities, and left on the window sill while I dozed, it returned to life! Bizarre, I would have sworn it was dead. Took it outside and put it on a bit of wood, which it managed to cling on to. When I went to check on it latter it was gone, so it either felt good enough to get moving again, or it got eaten.

It's been a lazy day today, partially because I've been sleeping badly. Falling asleep really easily, but waking up during the night a lot. So spent most of today running at a low ebb, dozing from time to time, sorting files on the comp, etc. I wanted to go visit the golf course, the museum, maybe even Bordertown so I could post these entries off, but it wasn't going to happen today. Actually wish I was staying an extra day now, but we should leave tomorrow.

Oh, fed Karno some of the berries that Tiki and I had when we were here last, and he fed me some fish jerky. It was cod. Fish Jerky used to be for poor people in Iceland, but now it's a delicacy. Wonder where I can buy camel jerky... They deserve to be eaten, horrible, inflatable tongued, foam-dripping bastards!

Poor Karno, he keeps trying to hide his love of flies. I don't know why, maybe he's embarrassed, or thinks I might disapprove. So he makes a big deal of screaming "flies, Flies, FLIES!" and waving his arms around causing them to take off and resettled on him in a new pattern. He says he hates them, but I think he doth protest too much.

And they obviously love him.

pools are a good source of interesting insects... of course all the ones I got went straight into my insect collection, but it's not every day you get a moth the size of a sausage roll, after all...

Get some huge moths.

And now I want to see a rajiid... especially if it's biting someone other than me! Oh the fun :)
