On your other topic - when I was in the process of applying to be part of my high school's exchange programme to Japan, there was another girl from my class applying. She was really eager, but pulled out suddenly without saying why. Years later I found out her dad had forbidden her to go, because she might get raped. Never mind that she was far more likely to be attacked here in Australia (in fact I felt safer in Japan then I have ever in Perth). She lost this awesome opportunity because of fear, and it really sucked.
