Apparently Barry Letts has passed away. He was the producer of Doctor Who for all but the first of Jon Pertwee's stories, was executive producer for Tom Baker's last season, and did a handful of stories in various media outside those two runs.

I have no idea why, but feeling rather gutted by the news.

Most DW cast and crew die and I think it's a shame but Lett's death has actually hit me quite hard. I think one of the aspects that hits me is knowing that he and Terrance Dicks had an ongoing tradition dating back to their DW days of having a feed of chips together virtually every Friday night. I can't help but wonder how Terrance is feeling, knowing that their regular Friday nights are over, I hope he's okay.

Goodbye Barry, and thank you for producing the shows that my first Doctor appeared in. Your work has directly and indirectly influenced my life in so many ways.

* April and Andy visited on the weekend. Yay!

* My car indicator continues to play up. Boo!

* Sharon and I got to go see Up on Sunday. It was good and didn't stupidly pander to the 3D. Yay!

* Sharon's grandpa died Sunday night. He was an awesome old bloke. Boo!

More under cut, some TMI... )
Life is stupidly tiring and busy at the mo'. Lex is refusing to sleep, which woldn't be so bad but he insists we don't sleep either. So here is a mostly pre-written post I've been meaning to get up for ages.

Way back in January I did the Interview Meme. As it stood, I still had a bunch of questions to answer, I answered most of them at the time but babalon_93 hit me with five questions that required detailed answers, two of which were stumpers. And it's taken me until now to finally answer the two I found most difficult. All the rest were answered way back in early Feb. I haven't made any changes to my old answers to update them.

So, below the cut, my answers to questions posed by [livejournal.com profile] stephiepenguin, [livejournal.com profile] arcadiagt5, and [livejournal.com profile] babalon_93. If you posed questions for me that I haven't answered here, feel free to repose them and I shall attempt to answer them sometime in the next eight months. Very long... )

Roadshow have a bunch of Doctor Who DVDs going cheap, so figured I'd put up a bunch of stuff I have for sale or will be ordering in. Doctor Who stuff first, then the rest. Read more... )

"There's no doubt that Harry Potter has been good for my career, but I need a change, and I want to head in a dramatic new direction to show my range. I've even had a costume custom made to show my commitment and sent the photo to Steven Moffat telling him my idea. I suspect I'll be hearing from him any day now."

Picture and Doctor Who joke below cut. )

Last night I watched the first episode of The Web Planet. It was just what I needed. And the best thing?

I turned on the 5.1 surround sound, just for the hell of it!

* I made banana and walnut muffins today, and they were yummy. I gave half to Bill and Diane from the Post Office, because they are lovely people and I didn't manage a Chrissy prezzie for them last year.

* Our estate agent has put back our rent inspection a month at my request. Basically told her we were in the middle of sorting/rearranging, and the house would be a mess.

Cut for extreme length, and because there's nothing overly exciting... )
- The highly erotic/sadistic piece of the dream sequence in the 1941 version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde starring Spencer Tracy. Otherwise, the film was mostly average, though Tracy's performance was good, and there was an interesting variation on the multiple fade change near the end. They superimposed his eyes separately so while the rest of the shot had the normal fade issues, his eyes remained mostly static.
Quite clever, as we tend to look at the eyes.

- Lex slept last night from 9pm until 9:30 this morning. Generally five to six hours is a really good night!

- Finding the original computer game Fallout for $15.

- I did a stocktake, and discovered I have $11,000 (retail) of Doctor Who toys and DVDs to sell. Given that chunk of my stuff is imported, and I don't charge huge mark-ups, that's kind of amazing. That doesn't count the couple of things I have to send to people where it's been delayed due to baby/house-cleaning/health issues.
Before the stocktake, I thought I probably had about $5K in stock. There's another twelve hundred worth of other DVDs and toys.

By now most of you will have heard that Matt Smith is to be the 11th Doctor.

I trust Moffat and co. to have chosen carefully, but I am a little worried about the future if recent trends continue. At this rate, another fifteen years we'll have a foetus behind the console!

* Between Lex and selling stuff, I've had bugger all time to post. So here are a bunch of things I wanted to do proper posts about. Nothing of vital importance in here, move along... )
