I know a couple of people on here who will appreciate this. I drag myself to the supermarket to pick up a few things, and decide while there I better get some condoms. Shaz has been decidedly more amourous of late, and since we don't want her to go getting pregnant just yet, we're using condoms.

So I go looking and there are vibrating (which are sold out), plain, and ribbed. So, plain or ribbed? I decide I want ribbed in the hopes that my lady may enjoy it more. 6-pack or 12? I'm a pretty optimistic guy, so I want a twelve pack.

Except.

The only twelve packs they have either have two glow-in-the-dark condoms, or two chocolate flavoured condoms included in the dozen. I just want twelve ribbed condoms. Now there are times when I'd go the glow, but today, no. My mood was such that the idea of glow-in-the-dark or flavoured condoms that I don't want was intensely annoying.

I check through the shelves. Nope. If I want a twelve pack of Ansell, my condom of choice, I have to choose between two options I don't want. I'm still not coping with the world well, little things are tending to break me. I'm tempted to just walk away. But if I don't buy them, I'm sure to regret it.

Ansell you bastards! Don't replace two of the condoms I definitely want with two types I don't want! If you want me to try the product in the hopes I'll go for them, chuck in the two non-standard ones as extras dammit! Then I have the condoms I want, and I may try out the others and decide I like them, and I'll certainly think better of the company for it.

I bought a six-pack.

You could have bought 2 x 6 packs.

Hmmmm, thinks:
If you buy 4 x 6 packs does that constitute a slab?

From: [identity profile] dalekboy.livejournal.com

But 2 x 6 packs costs more than a single 12 pack.

And if 4 x 6 packs is a slab, are you meant to leave one out for the garbos at Christmas time?

nah, just 2 packs. 'cos otherwise, the truck fills up before they've collected all the contributions...

(I used to hang out with a teetotal garbo. He was always really pleased when people left out soft drinks. Mind you, I'm not sure if they still stop to pick such things up, given the automated trucks, and the awful schedules they work)

Ansell definitely make the nicest condoms in my experience.

I've only ever had one Ansell break, which is an important consideration :)

Kali and I have used polyurethane condoms (don't know what brand) and found them to be very nice. Very thin, snug fit means pretty much no loss of sensation.

Which isn't always a good thing for an old Victor Lawn Mower like me :)

The only breakages I've had have been the ribbed ones. I prefer the thinner ones (Nudas?), and no-one's ever complained.

I normally only buy standard, but figured it was worth trying a change.

They were Avantis, by Durex. They used to sell at a box of five for between $14 and $21 depending where you shopped - a pay for quality thing, really. Can't get them any more though, according to the Condom Shop on Chapel St - Durex have gone for a different plastic under a new name (neither of which I can remember now) that's cheaper for them and means they can sell more in a box for a slightly lower price. I haven't tried them yet to see if I like them as much though.

The plastic's isopropene or polyisopropene, something like that, and the new name is Avanti Ultima I think. Saw them in the supermarket just now. They're ten a box for the same price as the old boxes of five, which brings them much closer in line with the latex ones.

They all have stickers on the back too telling existing Avanti users that there's been a change and the new condoms are different so make sure you read the instructions carefully before using - but on every box they've stuck the sticker over the instructions.

Durex Condoms

The Durex Avanti is still available in the 5-packs. There is also a NEW Durex Avanti Bare Sensation, which is made of Polyisoprene (for latex allergy sufferers). More comfortable than polyurethane, and provides a softer, more natural feeling. In stock with us by end of May,2009.

Have they started making larger-sized ribbed ones? If yes, where do they sell them then??

larger ones

We've only seen 4 seasons in the large size; didn't think ancel did a large variety i.e. 57mm diameter. I wish they'd just sell huge packets of large normal or ripped, I certainly don't need glow in the dark; it does Gemma and I no good at all.

Re: larger ones

ansell do a large, but we decided we preferred the feel of the 4 seasons. they have more lube on them to start with.
4 seasons came out with a naked large which were really really good, but i've only ever seen them in priceline.
my favourite coles that i go to doesn't sell me favourite condoms.

I don't normally notice your occasional mischoices of words, but I did really like this one. I can't imagine that packets of ripped condoms would be a best seller :-)

Re: larger ones

ah oops not the sort of typo you'd want on condom packaging. I recall Gemma was having a reasonably bad health afternoon when I typed that and I didn't check spelling. ah well.
