Have sort of crashed a bit. Haven't really been on net or looked at email for several days, kind of spinning through the day not taking much in, though did make the meeting with con-runners yesterday, which was great.

I have done a new budget, and it's kind of scary. Even with a $100K deposit, we may not be able to find an affordable house in Canberra! And the budget is a tight one, with about $600 put aside for a year's entertainment (eating out/movies/fairs, etc.), pretty much all the rest is covering bills of one description or another. Admittedly we've increased our shopping budget by $50 in preparation for Lex, but given our current shopping budget has been $75 for the last ten years, I think it was about time anyway. There is currently no budgeted money for con-going, though what we're hoping is that profits from the business will help with that.

Will probably be heading down to Melbourne in the next week or two to finalise a few odds and sods. My camera hasn't been letting me download pictures onto the computers, hence no trip shots yet. Am currently sorting through photos for a couple of different projects. Have written a new Love & Hate post, though want to get another one or two up my sleeve before posting.

Oh, and it's Guttermonkey's Birthday! Hope you have a great one, my friend! And a good birthday, too.

Have just finished downloading the first episode of Season Four of New Who, and will watch it very shortly.

Was wondering if you were going to use Lex or Xander... I quite like both.

Couldn't stand using Xander as the short form, and Alec/Alex is what we call Sharon's grandfather, so Lex feels the best option.

You're welcome, just wish I could see your show!

Hope the special Birthday Show is as awesome as you are :)

What price is an 'affordable' house in Canberra these days?

Drhoz and I need to sit down and do a new budget. We're looking at least Drhoz's pay going straight onto the house.

Average price seems to be around $500K. While the banks would allow us to loan something like $310K, that's because they're soulless idiots. A loan we could pay off without panicking every time there's an interest rate rise is probably closer to $170-200K.

On the plus side, the market is starting to hiccup. Some houses have come down $100K over the last few months. It's plausible that prices will continue to come down, or at least stabilise for a while, allowing us time to save up more of a deposit.

My sympathies for you budgetary woes. They sound nasty indeed.

But squeee for the niblet having a name! I hadn't caught that before.

Nah, the budget stuff isn't so bad. Money's tight for most folks, and we can actually loan more then we thought - $260-$275K, and still be inside our safe range. House prices are dropping in Sydney, they've been dropping in Melbourne, and they are definitely hiccuping in Canberra. So for the first time in ages, waiting to buy a place may save us money. Last time this happened houses dropped 10%, and interest rates were much better then.

We hadn't actually mentioned Alexander's name before this post, we only just found out he was a he. Of course he may pop out and we'll take a look and say, "Oh, he's not an Alexander, he's a Norman." So we'll have to wait and see whether he stays Lex.

My previous fill-in name was Frank, until I put two and two together and will avoid that as a name at all costs.

Hey, I can think of worse people to be named in unintentional tribute to...
