Other people's dreams are usually pretty dull and only interesting to the actual dreamer. So I'll pop the two dreams below a cut, and you can read them if you feel you want to. I will attempt to keep the descriptions short and to the point. All you need to know is that both dreams were about death.

In the first dream, it turned out that Tiki was dying of some ailment, and had something like 3 months to live. The dream jumped forward to the kitchen at Sth Oakleigh and we're sitting there and it's her last day, she looks perfectly fine, and acts fine. Eventually she figures death is pretty close, and it's a nice day, so she's going to start walking and see how far she gets before she dies. Tiki tells me I'll know what to do when I get the call, and she leaves carrying one of my cards (one of the ones with a picture of her on it) so that if she drops dead somewhere they have someone to contact. And I sit quietly and wait for the phone to ring.

I woke up out of the dream, and the reality of the situation hit me. If Tiki were to die, would I be able to delay the funeral long enough to find six big blokes to wear ballerina outfits, and teach them the choreography to the piece of music Tiki told me she wanted played at her funeral?

In the second dream Bernadette, my biological mum, rings up to tell me that my biological dad Peter has died. She's not sure I care, but if I'm interested, gives me the details for a group of folks organising people to head up to Queensland for the funeral. On one hand I'm not interested, on the other, it'd be a chance to get a look at my half-sister, which holds some interest.

I go to the meeting which has three or four people at it, and they're discussing how few people have replied to the RSVPs, and car pooling up to funeral. At some point they ask me how I knew the deceased, and I'm not sure if I said he was my biological father or not. I think I thought it. I said I could take one person in my car up to QLD, and my last memory of the dream before I woke up was my car driving through forest on the way there. As I drove, I was a little concerned that people would see the resemblance (I look incredibly like Peter) and it may be obvious to my half-sister and other members of the family that I'm one of his bastard kids. I wasn't sure how I was going to handle that, if it came up.

So that's both dreams.

Made for a slightly sleepless night. I wasn't particularly worried by either one, but I'm not used to remembering my dreams, so I tend to mull over them a lot when I do, which kept me awake.

Then this morning when Sharon woke up for work, I was already awake. We cuddled up and she grabbed my hand and put it on her belly, and yep, I felt Lex kick. Or punch, or head-butt, or body slam, he is related to me, after-all.

It's the first time I've actually felt him move, which is very cool. I felt him move a few more times, but interestingly, I wasn't... thrilled. Or amazed. Or even really moved. My rational mind knows there's a little living being doing the samba in my wife's guts, so him moving is a given, and conceptually I think it's awesome. It just isn't getting me on any sort of emotional level. I suspect the distance was from one of two things, I still haven't connected with him after Tracy, and/or I was kind of out of it and sleep deprived after those two dreams. So will just have to see how I go next time.

I did appreciate the odd timing though - waking from two dreams about death to encounter definite signs of life from my son.

I still find it hard to link the alien in my tum with an actual baby, despite it only being a few weeks off!

I had a death dream last night too, about my baby. Luckily it wasn't one of those hyperrealistic ones where you wake up feeling like you've really gone through all of those emotions. But I was very happy to feel her moving around not long after I woke up.

You wait 'til it pops out, a red, wrinkly thing with a screwed up little face, it still won't look like an actual baby :)

Glad the dream wasn't a bad one. Not long now and you won't have to worry about her twanging your innards when she's bored any more :)

I'm happy to wear a Tutu for Tiki... pity she's younger and much healthier than me, really...

you may be able to wear a tutu, but can you dance? That's the real question!

You're have to ask my Tango Instructor that. My partner seemed to think so.

They don't do that one where I have classes, but I *have* got a friend who assures me they can give you private lessons at a very reasonable cost.

But they're in Tokyo at the moment. So you'll have to wait. Sorry.

It's something I've never experienced myself (the kicking thing - I can't remember any death dreams either but my memory is not reliable on that score)

I guess I've always felt that pregnant women have far too many people coming up and touching them, often apparently without even asking, and I'm at least not going to contribute to that.

Your comment reminds me I have to work on the t-shirt for Sharon that says "I am not a petting zoo."

I remember sitting with my mum when she was preggers with my youngest brother and watching her stomach move as he kicked and rolled around. I saw him a month ago and he's a quiet 15 year old who is taller than me (yeah, yeah not that hard)- it's all kind of weird I guess.

I have heard that dreams about death signify the end of some sort of emotional journey- perhaps you'll be able to connect now?

Who knows? But once he's out, puking and crapping everywhere, it'll be hard to keep my distance, even if I wanted to :)

...I felt Lex kick.

When did "Nibblet" become "Lex"? Did I miss a post somewhere?

From: [identity profile] dalekboy.livejournal.com

Didn't do a big annouce, just referred to him as Lex the first time a few posts back, after the ultrasound lady confirmed it was a boy. We had planned on Alexander, after Sharon's grandfather, for a boy, and Alexandrovna, after my grandmother, for a girl. Still allowing for the bub popping out, us taking a look and staying, "Oh it's a Marvin."

Sharon's grandfather often gets his name shortened to Alec, so Lex works. Plus it also works as a reference to Lex Luthor, and to the Lexx "The greatest weapon of destruction in the two universes." While those are definitely not the reason for the name, as is obvious, they are bonuses. We still call it Nibblet from time to time.

I'm still hoping the lady was wrong. I have told Shaz that she will just have to keep having babies until I get a daughter ;)

Death dreams, huh. I had a dream about being dead the night before. It's interesting timing: last night and today are part of the festival of Samhuin, the Celtic New Year, which was a death-related festival. The day between the years when the veil between worlds was thinnest. Also, historically, the time when you went out and killed all your surplus livestock so that you had plenty of stored food for winter and not too many animals to try and keep alive in the dark months. This doesn't apply quite so much in Australia, but it's still the time when you begin to notice the darkness settling on you. For me it's the time of year when it's dark by the time I get home from work, so if I want sun I have to steal it from work time.

Oh, and the dancing ballerinas doesn't have to be at my funeral. Given that I have friends scattered across the country and might need to mark the death in more than one place, it'd be more feasible to do it at a wake party anyway. Send the tutu-ed tiptoers in with an empty coffin and celebrate. For that matter, why keep the coffin empty? Fill it with jelly worms, have the ballerinas "trip" and drop the coffin and send the worms everywhere... :-) (Glowing slime would work just as well under the circumstances...)
