The silly thing is, just before hearing it, I got to see this one on YouTube. Okay it's a comedy take on a Bond theme and the new films, but it actually sounds way more like a Bond song than we've been given.

I can't help but think about when I first heard Madonna was doing the song for Die Another Day, I was over the moon. She has a good strong sassy voice, the kind I associate with a good Bond song. And then they messed with her voice and gave us a good song, but a crap Bond song.
I love most of the early Bond songs, they have that big, sexy, dark sound to them. For the record, my personal "recent" favourite is "World is Not Enough" by Garbage.
No point to this post, just thinking aloud...

I think if you're going to choose someone for a Bond song, they need to have already had a career verging on a decade, or the right sound, preferably both.

Try "Touch Me" on their myspace page. Great 007 stylings.

I've just heard Johnny Cash's submission for the Thunderball theme - it's a bit 'John Wayne is James Bond,' but the lyrics relate to the film much more directly than the Tom Jones version.

He's tall and he's dark
And like a shark, he looks for trouble
That's why the zero's double
Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
He's suave and he's smooth
And he can soothe you like vanilla
The gentleman's a killer
Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Damoiselles and danger
Have filled the stranger's past
Like a knife he cuts thro' life
Like ev'ry day's the last
He's fast and he's cool
He's from the school that loves and leaves 'em
A pity if it grieves 'em
Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's not a fool
Oh, damoiselles and danger
Have filled the stranger's past
Like the knife he cuts thro' life
Like ev'ry day's the last
He's fast and he's cool
He's from the school that loves and leaves 'em
A pity if it grieves 'em
Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's not a fool
No, he's no fool
He's no fool
He is no fool
