The last day has been quite a good one for me.

Last night I watched A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 - The Dream Master - not one of the best Elm St films, but certainly an interesting one in that it attempts to further the mythos beyond the manic come back from the dead. Mentions of the Masters of the two dream gates, good dreams and bad dreams, and Freddy's line, "I've been guarding my gate a long time..." and the Dream Master nursery rhyme are reasonably interesting additions. However, the writers have picked up on some of Freddy's weird jokiness from the previous film and amped it up in this one. Wise-cracking Freddy never quite works for me, even when I like the lines.

Read for a while (oh reading, how I have missed thee!) and went to bed around 1am-ish, and got woken by Lex being noisy around 5am. Gave up at 5:30, got up, did all the dishes & and the breast-feeding stuff, then made myself breakfast (I'm not a brekky person, but I'd been up long enough and done enough that I could face food) and sat down to watch an episode of The Adventures of Superman - Star of Fate with George Reeves. The old Superman series can be a bit variable, but this was one of the better ones.

Next I boxed up some figures that are long overdue to be sent off. Between dealing with Lex, trying to get stuff done around the house, the Chrissy trip and aftermath, I just haven't been getting around to this box and it's been annoying me. Should get it sent off Friday when I have the car.

After that I replied to emails and almost caught up! That was nice.

Then I put out a load of washing around 9am and fed Lex. After feeding we had a good long play until he got grizzly and I put him down to sleep around 11-ish.

Watched an episode of Justice League Unlimited - Clash which was fabulous. Captain Marvel out boy-scouting Superman to the point where even Batman admits to liking him, "He's... sunny." Fabulous battle at the end, and an even more fabulous episode ending. JLU remembers that's what makes for good superhero stories are great, and flawed characters, and actual plots.

More emails and stuff, then at noon I decided it was time to crash. Lex allowed me a broken two hours, than I got up again and started making bread.

Started taking it a bit slower, starting to feel a bit more drained, though of course the heat didn't help that. Sat on the couch and rested, or played with Lex, between stages of the bread. Also started listening to podcast 22 of [livejournal.com profile] king_espresso's Paleo-Cinema blog. It's the first I've listened to, what I've heard of the episode so far has been quite good, and any criticisms are minor and wouldn't be fair until I'd heard several more. On the whole, it's well thought-out and entertainingly presented. So I've got something else to listen to now when I'm feeding Lex :)

After feeding Lex, hunted down an old Mr. Bill episode. Then played with Lex some more. After that, watched episode two of Doctor Who - Romans and wrote up my comments on it. Once I finish that one, I'll get up my comments on DW Reign of Terror and then I'll start watching through McCoy's first season in preparation for the Doctor Who panel at this year's Swancon.

Got my bread finished, it was nice. Then I decided to go swimming. I'd been trying to get there for the last few weeks, and while I knew it would be packed, headed out anyway. Did a little bit of swimming, but hard to practice properly with so many people around. By the time the crowds started to thin, I was exhausted and headed for home.

Got home with the intent of sitting on the couch and not moving for the rest of the night. But then decided it was time to have another go at getting Lex comfortable in the bath. Two things Lex hates - sleeping and baths. He will at least grizzle about either of these, usually he will cry, and when it comes to bathes he screams!

So this time I filled the bath, hopped in, and had him passed to me. He screamed lots. Only time he didn't was when I held him close and tight. Will try to spend a week of this and variations to see if it makes a difference.

Then had a shower and finally sat back down on the couch. Listened to a bit more of Terry's podcast, then realised I wasn't taking it in. Decided I'd watch Elm St. 5, but decided first to write this up.

It's been a good, happy, productive day for me. Usually I'd be lucky to get a third of this much done, even with the huge improvements to my health in the last year or so. Hell, I'm lucky to get through one or two episodes of something, let alone three episode and a movie!

It feels like one of my good periods, the ones I tend to get every three to five months. I used to take it a bit slower when these happened, but have since learned to make the most of it - I'll crash and burn within the next week, either way.

Right, now... Elm St... or maybe clean the lounge a bit first...?

I carved the words Carpe Diem into a cucumber last Sunday. It made sense at the time ...

(Someone carved the word DIE into a cucumber and I decided to improve upon that, and changed it to Carpe Diem.)

Definitely an improvement. My brain now goes down the path of thinking 'so what's the latin for seize the cucumber?'
