After I drop Sharon at the airport on Sunday, I get to spend a couple of days driving back to Canberra with [livejournal.com profile] gutter_monkey. We have no plans, beyond trying to check-out disused rail lines, and we may change that to something else.

I think you should all be jealous.

Road Trip!

OK, jealous now.

Of course I expect you to be jealous when I fly to NZ later. :)

Oh, got your SMS, still thinking about it.

Both Sharon and I are jealous of anyone who goes to New Zealand, we've been wanting to for years, just never been organised.

No pressure. Mind you, job description may be about to change radically, as well.

That's OK, you didn't really give me a description anyway. Probably better for me to ring you and chat about it. :)

A little bit jealous. A little bit scared.

Not much to see on most Victorian disused lines. Mostly they have been closed long enough that only the earthworks remain. There are still quite a few of the "wheat traffic only" lines that only see a few trains per year and I have quite a soft spot for the old silos since I saw many of them growing up in wheat country.

I remember when I were a wee lad, travelling out to my uncle's farm near Waaia, there was a train line that ran along the south side of said farm. Every so often, I'd wake to hear the sound of the diesel locomotive trundling on its merry way.

Gone now. The land that the lines were laid upon has been sold to the farmers to extend their property. The only hint that they were there is the evenness of the former bed, and a few roads where the old rails are still embedded in the asphalt. Oh, and the old grain silos near the town, too.

I am, indeed, highly jealous. Also, please ignore my recent email (if you got it?) - lunch has been called off, so I will be there Sunday after all.
