Baby cuddles! Some people love'em. Some people wouldn't touch a baby if it was covered in Super-Magic Wishing Powder (TM).

Just so you know, Sharon and I are more than happy to have people* hold and cuddle Lex, but we won't generally ask someone if they'd like a hold, because it makes some folks feel pressured to do so.

So if you'd like a hold, just ask.
However, we do feel it necessary to warn you that he's at a biting** and pinching stage at the moment, so be prepared.

Oh, and I'm weening him of taking people's glasses. Every time he grabs mine, I grab his nose. It seems to have mostly worked. Now when he reaches for my glasses, and I reach for his nose, his little hand pauses -
- and then he grabs my nose!

** Lex has informed us that he now wishes to be called The Evil Doctor Quadchomp (TM), and that he will use his four teeth to destroy you utterly!

Well, at least you know that he's able to observe and learn from observations.

I love it. The other thing he does is reach for the glasses, I reach for his nose, and then he'll touch my check. Or his hands will wander my face getting closer and closer to the glasses until he's just brushing them with his fingertips.

Occasionally it's all too much and he has to grab them. But it's fun watching the build-up to breaking point.

... and some clumsy types (i.e. me) worry that they'll Critical Fumble your baby and break him ;-)

You just have to think of some of the environments where people raise kids. Jungles, the arctic, America.

And I don't know how many times I've heard parents talk about babies falling off change tables, rolling off the bed, etc. I've yet to hear anyone I know say bub got dropped and broke a limb, though it's obviously happened to some folks at some point.

Amen to that. Bub number two is a climber and has plunged a couple of times, usually while we rush across the room to catch him. It was a lot easier to childproof before he worked out he could move the chairs around

Mate, if a baby can survive me, they can survive most things. And Sharon is terminally clumsy.

There's only really one way to improve your baby handling skills. If you'd like to hold Lex when we're next down in Melbourne, go for it, don't let the clumsiness worry you.

Of course you can! If we could afford the Natcon I'd be saying you could do it then.

Going to Continuum?

No.
Going to Canada instead (Actually it's 24 hours in Auckland, 4 days on Oahu, a few weeks in Canada and then 4 days in Munich. It was cheaper to get a round the world flight rather than a return flight to Montreal)

Well, we'll sort something out. One way or another. If you have reason to visit Canberra at any point, you know you'd be welcome to our big fold-out couch, and baby cuddles :)

That is a cool trip!

Always wanted to visit Canada. I've only ever met one horrible Canadian, and it was like she was a vessel for the entire Canadian population's collective unpleasantness. Truly one of the most vile people I've ever had the misfortune to meet.

Given she lives over here, you should have nothing but lovely people to deal with. hope you guys have an awesome time!

Baby cuddles are always good:-) But I'm looking forward to setting Lex and Cygnet out adventuring together:-) Should be amusing:-)

When people see me juggling baby and ... they often offer to 'help'. Even though I am usually managing fine on my own (well-practised by now), I have grown accustomed to saying, "Or does this really mean you'd like a cuddle?" :) I am still yet to find any volunteers to come help out with the grocery shopping or dishes though. Sigh!

I must remember the bit about the nose. J will go for the glasses whenever I am wearing them - nursing at night is only going to get more interesting as his range increases. Most often however, it is my hair, which is driving me nuts cos it hurts! And he's a strong little bugger too. I am very much looking forward to a haircut next week.

The glasses thing is an issue because he's fast and rough and so could catch someone's eye with a finger, or drop their glasses and break them.

I figured since I hate having my nose touched, he may as well. "No," is all well and good, but at this age he generally laughs at it. But the nose thing, it's an instant distraction, and seems to have gotten the point home that this particular behaviour has a consequence he doesn't like.

Doesn't help. Seriously. Sharon does it and he still gets her hair. I don't bother tying mine back, and I do better than her through careful placement of him, and neck agility.

*scribbles that out and writes 'shave head' instead*

Or more accurately, if you are thinking you might want to get a haircut (and trust me, you might), do ti *before* teh baby is born. He is 5 months on saturday and the stars have only now alligned that I may go and do this very important thing.
My (rather long) hair is also falling out everywhere, because that's what happens when your pregnancy hormones dissipate at around 3 months. And trying to clean up and keep my own hair out of everything else has *also* driven me nuts!

Love the retraining of lex to be a nose grabber.
