So yeah, I'm excited.

Maybe I should finish up watching 2009s Dr Who.

(I liked the 1970s Dalek in there)

Was that Sally Sparrow I spotted (albeit a brunette)?

But we can't keep the crappy Doctor - he regenerated into Matt Smith on New Year's Day.

I almost half agree with you there, Im disgusted with the whole notion to be perfectly honest, but atleast Tennant was decent to look at, Matt Smith is just a joke.

But the Doctor's not supposed to be decent to look at. He's a 900+ year old alien. We are not supposed to find him hot and sexy!!

Tell that to casting .. besides if that were the case, why have each incarnation become seemingly younger .. Don't mistake me for a naive Tennant Doctor worshiper. I appreciate his relationship with Rose, I'm the first to admitt it, but I'm not ignorant.

Matt Smith might do wonders, but I wash my hands of the show.

Nobody will be as brilliant as Tom Baker ever was.

There's not really a trend there. Once you take out Hartnell (55) and Smith (27), all the Doctors have been in their 30s or 40s.

ObTeenyNitpick: I believe Davison started just before he turned 30, didn't he?

Ooh, pedantry! : )

I can't believe I just went and checked this. Peter Davison recorded the regeneration scene in "Logopolis, part 4" on 24 January 1981. He turned 30 on 13 April 1981. So yes, he was indeed only 29. For about 12 seconds of screentime. : )

The story I heard was that they were actually looking for an older actor this time, but Matt's audition was so good that they couldn't not choose him just because he was younger than what they were looking for.

actually MOST of the doctors HAVE been decent to look at, i.e. Peter Davison, Tom Baker, hell even Jon Pertwee! and McGann too...and of COURSE Christopher....but this one? i dunno. sorry.

i said decent. i didn't say sexy. if you were to compare classic who with new who Peter Davison would be the David Tennant of that time.

True.

I've got to admit, I've found some of the stuff people have been saying online about Matt Smith (not necessarily here) pretty offensive. The guy's got a big chin and floppy hair - that doesn't make him a hideously ugly abomination.

I suspect he's going to wind up being very, very popular.

big chin and floppy hair...not pretty in my book lol. but to each his own :P i DOUBT he will be very very popular. he's got some big shoes to fill. (course he'll probably trip up in them lol :P)

I doubt he'll be as popular as Tennant, but Tennant was a once-in-a-generation intersection of great talent and enormously lucky timing. The fact that Smith is following in the footsteps of ten actors rather than one kind of softens the risk of him being unpopular.

okay wait..there's a problem with your sentence. you said we can't keep the crappy doctor (meaning tennant) he's regenerated..meaning it SOUNDS Like you wanted him to stay (keep him) even though he was "crappy" yes? :P

For the record I loved Tennant until his performances became a little lazy and the writing became *incredibly* lazy.

Did I spy a weeping angel? There wasn't really enough of Matt Smith to get a feel, but the rest looked good.
