I'm having a hard time getting used to the new reality. I'm trying but it's not easy. The first part of the new reality is becoming more solid, but even after all this time, even owning the DVD boxed set, it still seems slightly... unreal.
Doctor Who is back. It's not only back, but it looks great, and is hugely popular with the general population. It's considered a cool show.
After all the years it was absent from our screens, this is still a shock to the system. But there are bigger shocks, things that make it more surreal.
Doctor Who is back, it has a definite future of at least two more years. The BBC is proud and supportive of it!. WTF? They gave it the go ahead for not one, but two Christmas Specials! They gave it a budget!
Now we get to the really weird part, it's got cool merchandise! Sonic Screwdrivers that have lights and sound effects. Dalek Battle Packs, with two daleks that blow each other up! I've just seen pictures of the new four-inch figurines, and they look great!
We now have Doctor Who toys that are mostly worth having. Oh, some of the old ones we used to get weren't too bad. Dapol's daleks were pretty cool. But when they did their Time Lord figures, the ones that had painted-on smiley faces for goodness sake, I was actually insulted by how bad the figure was. It was obvious that they thought we would buy any damned thing that had the logo on it.
On a side note, with regards to the new series, I have to admit I'm kind of relieved that they've done walkie-talkies in the shape of the ninth Doctor and a Slitheen. If we hadn't had one outrageously silly idea for merchandise, I think I would have fainted. I can't believe in all the levels and people a product has to go through to get from an idea to the drawing board to being mass-produced, not one person asked the simple question, "Why?"
Doctor Who is back, it has cool toys... and they are talking about a big budget feature film! Oh how we've longed for a feature film. And I'm not talking the TV Movie, though it was kind of nice. Let's face it, with the people who are currently behind the series, it would look nice and is likely to be fairly epic. If Rob Shearman or Steven Moffat get given the job of writing it, I may very well faint.
Doctor Who is back. And almost everything about it totally rocks!
Just stop for a moment and think about how lucky we are. It's always been the best show on TV, but now it's being treated as such by everybody.
And I am truly grateful.

Umm... everything you said. And I'm also overjoyed that there really doesn't seem to be a vocal backlash from "old school" Who fans who can't stand the shock of the new. Probably because the new is actually pretty similar to the old once you scrape off the higher production values.

I just don't know you any more...
I have heard people who liked the old series complain that this one is too slick. *shakes head*
And I have heard people say that if the sets don't wobble, it's not real Doctor Who. Idiots, as if that was the reason they watched it originally.
