Transformers 2 was as bad as the first. The River of No Return was good, but I think Marilyn Monroe was miscast - good, but in the wrong film. Original Italian Job was as awesome as always. Toy Story 3 was marvelous and made the audience cry.

She was the 1930s production by the folks who gave us King Kong. I rather liked it, and was glad to have seen it. Cleopatra - first half is actually quite good, but it really falls apart after the intermission. That said, every cent is on screen. Worth seeing at least once, if only so you can be totally godsmacked by the production values.

I am using the word 'literally' in its correct meaning when I say I literally laughed more at the little bits during the closing credits of Superhero Movie than I did for the entire film. Glad I saw it on TV. Fanboys was really not that funny, and now I've seen Seth Rogan in a film, he really was the weakest thing in it, which was no surprise. It wasn't a bad film, but take out the fanboy stuff and it just wasn't that good.

Alien Nation was actually better than I remembered. Still fairly by the numbers cop-buddy movie, but better than I remembered. Glad we had it just so it could spawn an awesome TV series. Rollerball (the original) I sat down to watch wondering if it would be as good as I remembered - and I remembered it as being pretty darned good. It was better.

Inglourious Basterds was very good, in fact, it was actually way better than it should have been. Predators was the sort of film it should have been, and made me want to rewatch the original. Waterloo Bridge from 1940 was also quite good, though suffers from the sort of ending they had to have in those days.

Inception I enjoyed. I don't think it's amazing as many people do, but I do think it's a very good, and well-made, movie.

In 1988 Fred Dekker & Shane Black wrote Monster Squad. It's a kids flick where a bunch of kids are up against Dracula, the Wolfman, Frankenstein's monster, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the Mummy. It has approximately seventy-four times the heart, intelligence, humour and characterisation of Stephen Sommers dreadful Van Helsing.

I think the last time I went out to the movies was Iroman 2.

OK still this year but there's a whole heap of things I was vaguely interested in seeing that I just didn't get to. And some of them I could have.

I think there's problems in my motivation.

I think Transformers 2 is a significant measure worse than Transformers. I liked Transformers. Transformers 2 was badly plotted, confused, poorly characterised, deeply unfunny and on top of that mysogynist and racist.

My list so far, since moving to NZ: "The A Team" and "Inception". Both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. The A Team was very much a check your brain in at the door and have fun type of movie, but in a good way, not in an Independence Day way. If you count movies that I've watched on DVD, then add Sherlock Holmes, The Green Zone, and Down Periscope to the list. Sherlock Holmes: decent, although I didn't really buy the change in Sherlock's style; I thought it would have worked better as a more generic detective than hanging itself off Sherlock's name. Green Zone was very well done, and it's a little surprising to see it out there, given the way the media sucked up to Dubya at the time; I guess they've gone off him since he went out of office. Down Periscope is, well, Down Periscope - good escapist humour in a fairly predictable way.

Toy Story 3 on Saturday, and I'm very much looking forward to it.

Apart from anything else (and there's a LOT else), Toy Story 3 has a Totoro.

That GRINS.
