Having been inspired by James Gunn's lists of hundred things he likes and hates, I thought I'd do something similar. But instead of just doing a list of things in one hit, I'm going to do mine over the course of one hundred days. I probably won't manage to post every day, especially with the move coming up, but I'd like to try. I think it'll be an interesting exercise.

The Rules
There will be no particular order to the posts, and while I say 'love or hate', some things will doubtless be things I merely like or dislike. These will be things that I love or hate, you may feel differently about them, I don't care so long as you don't pester me about it.
Each post will be behind a cut because there will be foul language, there will be some deeply personal issues discussed, there will be adult concepts talked about in detail, there will be taboo subjects - and that's just on the love list *grin*. I tend to self-censor quite a bit, so part of this is about trying not to. Once I warm up, expect some occasional really over the top ranting or praising.

And so with no further bullshit...

Customer Service
Arseholes in shops that think they are better than their customers. Organisations that, with all their rules and paperwork, make it difficult for their staff to do their jobs well. Call centres that concentrate more on number of calls dealt with rather than number of calls where the issue was corrected.

What I really fucking hate is being in a position where I have to give bad customer service. I quit World For Adults because while the way they treated their staff sucked more than all the oral sex in all the vids and mags in the shop combined, their attitude to customers was what I found truly offensive. They wanted the staff to wring every last cent they could out of a customer.

This is an industry that, for a fair portion of the customers, actually needs some delicacy of touch (so to speak). You're dealing with people's sexuality, for fuck's sake. Many of them come in feeling a little overwhelmed or unsure as it is, without being harassed into buying shit they don't need.

Continuum 4
The whole C4 crew are my heroes. Seriously. I could write tonnes on the work everyone put in. It really was a fantastic team effort, under the leadership of Mitch and Mondy. Given that it was following the amazing beast that was C3, they had a tough job. I never thought it would be bad, but I wasn't sure how good it could be made, especially since there would be the temptation to compare it to Continuum 3.

But C4 far exceeded my hopes for how good the con could be, and was everything I had hoped that Continuum, as a whole, would be. It was a social and friendly atmosphere where people talked and enjoyed themselves. It was a con where new fans could ease their way in, there wasn't too much on, it wasn't too big.

But most importantly, it helped crystalise what makes a good Continuum. You don't try to be the biggest, or the best, because then you get bogged down by the 'importance' of the convention, rather than what really matters - people. You just try to make sure that everyone has a good time, members, committee, guests. Because it doesn't matter who you have as a guest, doesn't matter how many people you get (well ok, you do want to break even), what matters is that everyone there is made to feel comfortable and welcome. And out of that comes the good stuff.

You have changed people's lives, remember that folks. There are people who went to C4 and found friends and acceptance, and it's all thanks to you. I'm both made proud and humbled by you all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I'm going to love reading about this.

I may also take up the challenge :)

It wasn't a challenge, but on the other hand, it may make some people's livejournals way more interesting :)

I wonder if people will try to keep up? I wonder, if they do, what they'll do when I post about my penis?

My challenge would be articulating why or why not, without making it confusing to read :) I seem to be unable to do this easily at the moment.

I will definitely be keeping up :)

*snuggle*

Hmmm, when were you thinking about posting about your penis?

If it's far enough into the future I might run a book on whether you love it or hate it. :D

And if you need an independent judging panel ....

Well, if you want to set a date for the book to end, say late October, I *may* be ready to post about it by then.

A judging panel, now there's a thought. Who wants to volunteer? *grin*

Ah, but how would you find a judging panel that was truly independent? Surely they'd all be instantly overwhelmed by the Power of the Penis.

Or perhaps underwhelmed... or horrified, like David Tennant was when he saw it. Check out the user pic for his reaction!

HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY!!!

How am I supposed to run the book if you're going to talk like that??!?!?!?!?

From: [identity profile] dalekboy.livejournal.com

You got a range of reactions! One complimentary, the other horror. Stop you bitching!

From: [identity profile] tikiwanderer.livejournal.com

I think that's his point - the whole point is to predict *your* reactions. If you tell us what they're going to be, it ruins the odds. Or more to the point - changes it from a game of "guess Danny's reaction" to "guess whether or not Danny's trying to screw with the system".

Hmmm... I won't take that bet.

From: [identity profile] dalekboy.livejournal.com

I would never screw with the system for personal gain... hey that's a point, do I even get a cut?!

But as I was saying, wouldn't do it for personal gain, but would just to watch you all run around like drunk ants on speed!
