Interviews with the artists and actors that used to reside inside the dalek casings of the original series of Doctor Who often contained a moment where they were asked how one operated a dalek. The reply usually consists of a quote not unlike this -

"Well, you sit on the seat, and scoot the dalek along the floor with your feet. There's a crossbar you can hold onto with one hand to give you better control. With your other hand you operate the sink plunger, with your third hand you move the gunstick, and with your fourth hand you move the eyestalk and operate the lights while remembering your lines so you can synch with dalek dialogue coming in over the speakers."

I fully recommend spending some time as a dalek operator as it will furnish you with the extra manual skills and dexterity you will need before attempting such things as nappy changes and baby baths.

The last week has ended up being all sorts of crazy and busy, but mostly good crazy and busy, with the only negative being a grizzly baby some of the time. And that's counter-acted by the fact we're getting some smiles scattered about here and there, which is nice. Hence no posts.

The last 24 hours, however, has been craptacular! Roadshow dicked me about with my order, changing the price of one of their reduced DVDs, but that's normal for them. The good side is at least I'll be getting them sometime soon-ish.

I lost my wallet on the way back from the Post Office yesterday. No sign of it yet. Losing the $50 in it is still less annoying than if I have to replace all the cards. Have just come back from putting up signs and asking at the Kaleen shops to see if it had been handed in. The good side was I got to ride my trike, and got to wear my skeleton socks, so not all bad. And as I said to Sharon, if I've lost this one I'll have to buy a new one with room in it for photos of my wife and son.

I'm behind on my preparation for the panels/items I'm doing at Conflux. Yes, I can talk about this stuff off the cuff better than some people who have prepared, but I think an over-reliance on just knowing your topic and not doing a bit of brushing up beforehand shows an essentially arrogant and lazy attitude. And if you're too lazy to do the work, why are you wasting people's time being on the panel? But the good side is, I'll get to talk Doctor Who, do trivia, do Magical Hat, and catch up with some people for the few hours I'm there on my panel passes. And I still have time to go over my notes before the con at this point.

Funtastic have chosen not to honour the remainder of my order for Classic Series Doctor Who figures. Basically, it doesn't matter that I have an order with them, they have pulled the remainder of my stock (and everyone else's) to put aside for Myer, Roger David, or one of the other big guys that didn't bother to order this stuff six fucking months ago, unlike the rest of us!

There is no good side, I'm fucking furious.

I do at least have enough figures put aside for those that ordered them, so no problem there, just been too flat chat to process them.

If anyone can tell me how I would go about sending an email to Funtastic's stockholders, I'd appreciated the information. Funtastic's stock have dived in recent times, and this sort of behaviour can't help. I would like their stockholders to know how they dick about the people giving them money.

The Voyage of the Damned Gift Sets got pulled in much the same way for one of the big companies. Six months later, they have obviously decided that they don't want them and the sets are now available again. In fact, virtually all the units that were pulled are back. So now there's a huge excess of old stock... still at the original price! Why would I want to buy them? Anything like this I really wanted to sell, I've sourced from overseas to fill my orders. I had to charge more, but at least I had the stock.

I don't expect it to do any good, but I'm ringing Character Options in the UK tonight to beg them to find another Australian distributor.
It's been a mad couple of days, but I'm just squeezing this in before I have to run out the door.

I should have a couple of boxes of the Classic DW figures in next week, and according to Stan, my warehouse guru, I can definitely get more.

There are 8 figures in the first wave. They are -

- D84 with Anti Robot Transmitter
- SV7 with Robot Hand
- Zygon
- Colin Baker The Sixth Doctor with Sonic Lance
- Tom Baker The Fourth Doctor with 2nd Head and Sonic Screwdriver
- Peter Davison The Fifth Doctor with Sonic Screwdriver
- Magnus Greel with 2nd Head & Mr Sin
- Sea Devil with Heat Ray

Each figure comes with a part of the giant K1 robot, so if you collect all 8, you effectively get the K1 for free!

At this point, I should be charging $20 per figure, or $150 if you want all 8. The sooner you let me know what you'd like, the more likely I'll be able to fill your order. I have no idea how many of each Doctor will be in the boxes, there may only be one of each. That may limit availability, as it's no good leaving myself with lots of other non-selling figures while filling only orders for Doctors. Once I have numbers, I can put in a solid order and let people know what I can provide.

You can place orders with me through here or via email on - dannydoz at netspace dot net dot au

So get in fast, and I'll give you an update next week!

I'm freshly showered and shaved, I'm wearing red and white stripey socks and dalek underpants, and my son gurgling away in the bouncy gulag.

Today I'm 41 and all is right with my world :)
I'm about to put in an order to Roadshow, but before I do, there's a couple of specials that some of you may be interested in. Read more... )
I was just putting up some stuff on eBay. In amongst the items, I have a Natural Ood and Ood Sigma from Planet of the Ood. And I noticed that they both have different head sculpts. So I went off and checked, and yes, the Series 2 Ood figure also has a different head.

Compare and contrast with the Dapol Timelord figures, and this is why I love Character Options. They are crazy and dedicated enough to producing a good product that they go to this much trouble on a figure where using the one head on all three would do.

This is my first official Father's Day where I'm actual dad of a real live baby.

And I still don't feel like a dad. I keep expecting to have to give him back, like he's on loan from somewhere. It's surreal, but that may just be down to the sleep deprivation.

Lex was so keen to celebrate Father's Day with his dad, he kept me up by screaming until 5am, just so he could have more time with me!

PS - today sometime we will get to watch the final episode of Dalek Invasion of Earth together

While I've been sorting in the library the last four nights, I've also been listening to I, Davros by Big Finish Productions. It's one of the bonus audio plays included on the Complete Davros Collection.

It's long, each of the four parts running an hour or more, but overall quite good. Review continues and contains minor spoilers... )

Stay away from all Doctor Who related news until after you've seen episode 13 of the new series. There are some cool surprises in episode 12 and it will be so very easy to have them spoiled.

Given that some over you will be watching the series as the ABC airs it, that means avoiding spoilers for the next 3 months. Love or hate what they are doing in the show, it's worth it to come to it fresh.

Been very busy lately, which also tends to leave me knackered, so I've been watching a lot more stuff - as a way to make me stop for a while, drink and eat, it's reasonably effective. It's been a while since I last did one of these updates, so it'll include several months worth of watching.

Read more... )Will do another update shortly talking about some of the flicks I've watched. In the last week or two, my dislike of Van Helsing has shifted my recent viewing.

So what shows are you watching?

Have sort of crashed a bit. Haven't really been on net or looked at email for several days, kind of spinning through the day not taking much in, though did make the meeting with con-runners yesterday, which was great.

I have done a new budget, and it's kind of scary. Even with a $100K deposit, we may not be able to find an affordable house in Canberra! And the budget is a tight one, with about $600 put aside for a year's entertainment (eating out/movies/fairs, etc.), pretty much all the rest is covering bills of one description or another. Admittedly we've increased our shopping budget by $50 in preparation for Lex, but given our current shopping budget has been $75 for the last ten years, I think it was about time anyway. There is currently no budgeted money for con-going, though what we're hoping is that profits from the business will help with that.

Will probably be heading down to Melbourne in the next week or two to finalise a few odds and sods. My camera hasn't been letting me download pictures onto the computers, hence no trip shots yet. Am currently sorting through photos for a couple of different projects. Have written a new Love & Hate post, though want to get another one or two up my sleeve before posting.

Oh, and it's Guttermonkey's Birthday! Hope you have a great one, my friend! And a good birthday, too.

Have just finished downloading the first episode of Season Four of New Who, and will watch it very shortly.

So, does anybody else think that the folks who built the Vervoid costumes were giggling amongst themselves that whole time?

Well, I was forced to open the Tardis Playset and put it together because no-one had bought it. What's extra good about it is that once you get it put together, you get a free engineering degree! Strangely, once completed I wasn't so thrilled... for about 10 minutes. Then I started wondering why I hadn't been happy before, as it was a fabulous toy! Because I know some of you will be curious, I present some pictures below the cut.

There are also a couple of pics I've been meaning to get up for a couple of days. Read more... )

Well, better get my arse into gear, just had another three boxes of Doctor Who Toys arrive from the US... including Laser Screwdrivers! And a whole bunch of figures and playsets. I can't help but smile at the thought of getting all this cool Doctor Who gear today, gives a lift to an otherwise unbearable week.

Check my eBay store over the next few days, though a bunch should be going up tonight.

Note - The dog doesn't like being shot with the Laser Screwdriver.
