I posted recently about my headaches. Today was good, because I didn't wake up with one. But just in the last twenty minutes, I've started to get weird visual distortions across my vision, severe enough that I found I could barely read through the patterns. No pain, but the pressure behind my right eye that means it will soon be knitting needle time again.

I've heard of people having visual cues pre-migraine before but never experienced it. I don't know about other people's but mine has shifted and changed slowly over time, and from about halfway through it was a bent, twisting shape across part of my vision. Very pretty!

Well, I think I'm off to grab a Neurofen or two, as the right eye is becoming more painful.

when I get it (which isn't often as my migraines normally start when I'm asleep) it's either pretty lights with everything having a funny glow or just bits of vision missing. The first time I got the bits of vision missing, I totally freaked out as I was a trainee teacher playing dodgeball with a bunch of Year 7s. The first time I got the pretty lights, I stared at it for about 10 mins before I realised that it was a sign to go home before it got any worse.

Hope it passes soon.

Thank you for the hopes. I've Neurofenned and so now it's just wait and see.

At least Lex is happy and not screaming. Happy delighted yelling I can deal with, screams, not so much.

No. Nothing was from you in my account.
Are you sure you are inviting me?

I get two different types of lights. One version is sparkling dots, like fireflies. The second type, usually the harbinger of a much more severe headache, are more like rows of zipper teeth that flash slowly across my field of vision. At their worst, I end up with tunnel vision with this type of flashing lights. I rarely get those ones, thank god. I don't know if these are true migraines. They are certainly tension related, but will often come if I'm run down physically in other ways too. I used to take Nurofen, but am informed that, since I have high blood pressure, there's a one in 10000 chance it could kill me. So now I just have a lie down in a darkened room and hope for the best.

My better half loses almost all vision, it's pretty damn scary from the perspective of one who just hears about it.

I've never had any weird visual stuff, auras (which can be other senses, not just vision I think) etc before a warning. All I get with my eyes is a sensitivity to light when it is happening .Touchwood haven't had a bad one for a year or 2 at least!

I've never had pretty lights, but I get tunnel vision and the world seems out of synch. So I go to sleep.

Once lost vision though. I was doing stuff on the computer and then I slowly lost sight. It was pretty damn freaky, so before it was all gone entirely I went to sleep, and woke up fine.

If only sleep worked for everyone. Neurofen doesn't work for me though, so it's good you've found something to help, especially with the little lad around ^_^

You've just described my migraines. Trust me the novelty of the aural flash wears off. Especially when you're driving and you don't have Neurofen to hand.

Because my stroke came about from a migraine, I have Neurofen in my backpack. It's pretty rare I go anywhere without that. I also have regular headache tablets, and blood-thinning aspirin, which I start to take when I get these runs of headaches.

On a different note, you, me, someone else (Whochick maybe?) for a Doctor Who panel at C5?

Rather like me in a armadillo skin posing pouch. Which, by the way, was going to be another poster suggestion except it probably crept into the 'too sexualised' criteria.

I was fascinated by the visual effect of the migraine though. It was kind of like black and white streamers spinning around each other in slow motion - so really pretty. Started in the middle of my vision, so to keep reading I had to rely partially on peripheral vision, then over about half an hour, it slowly moved and spread along the top left side of my vision, leaving the middle clear.

Plus the Neurofen worked. Didn't get the headache, just pressure and a lot of tiredness/vagueness.

Interesting. I sometimes get an effect like that, and I usually take it as a cue that I've been on the computer too much, so I go and sit down (or lie down) for a while, and it goes away. It doesn't seem to develop into a headache or anything though ...

Mikee gets the visual disturbances - it's his warning that in 30min the pain will start. He describes it as "oil slick" type distortions with sort of melting effects on what he is seeing. - He is clinically diagnised with migraines btw (inhertied from his father)

Me, I get tension headaches and find Mersyndol to be my savour. The relaxant in it is the only thing that helps to relieve the pain and allow me to sleep them off.
