Having been inspired by James Gunn's lists of hundred things he likes and hates, I thought I'd do something similar. But instead of just doing a list of things in one hit, I'm going to do mine over the course of one hundred days. I probably won't manage to post every day, especially with the move coming up, but I'd like to try. I think it'll be an interesting exercise.

The Rules
There will be no particular order to the posts, and while I say 'love or hate', some things will doubtless be things I merely like or dislike. These will be things that I love or hate, you may feel differently about them, I don't care so long as you don't pester me about it.
Each post will be behind a cut because there will be foul language, there will be some deeply personal issues discussed, there will be adult concepts talked about in detail, there will be taboo subjects - and that's just on the love list *grin*. I tend to self-censor quite a bit, so part of this is about trying not to. Once I warm up, expect some occasional really over the top ranting or praising.

And so with no further bullshit...

I wonder if it's worth making something clear.

I don't really want people to die, I empathise too much with the victims and their families for a start. It's why I can't watch the news, I just get really depressed at the waste of life and potential. And hell, I don't want to die, either.

But at this rate it's the only way we're going to be able to have a liveable environment for our grandkids. The human race is expanding too fast with too little regard for their eco-system and the limited resources around them. The thing is, the damage is not only done, it has momentum. It'll take decades for that to slow down if not stop, even if we all changed our ways from tomorrow.

And the changes to rectify this happen at a snail's pace. Read more... )
I'd love to hear from people with better solutions that can be as easily achieved.

In recent months I've watched the media, under the guise of informing the public, try to stir everyone up into a panic about bird 'flu. There's a fine line between informing people and instilling fear to get ratings/sell papers/whatever. As usual, the media have worked less towards a policy of dissemination of information and more towards the instillation of fear.

What I find myself wondering is, is it wrong of me to want bird 'flu to hit?Read more... )
My Melton job has been cancelled! Grrrrrrrrrr...

It was the first job I was given for the year, I got it back in bloody July! Santa's Magical Arrival! I've been looking forward to this one for months. It's a four hour round trip to do it, but I didn't care because I loved working at Woodgrove.

And that bloody Magician is what has cost me the job. Cut for some very unSanta-ly thoughts )

Ok, yesterday I was out and about looking at DVD's. Now I knew that they had released the first three Nightmare on Elm St films locally, but yesterday seeing them around everywhere it just built to the point where I got really pissed off. Why? A few years back, in the US, they released a nice big boxed set of all the Elm St. films. It was going to be released here about six months later, I even had it on pre-order, but they canceled the release. Now the boxed set has tonnes of material in it. For a fan of the films, it's a wonderful treat.

Wind forward and what have Roadshow done? Incoherent ranting with occasional naughty words below the cut... )

I don't mind the occasional meme. The well written ones are fun to do, but most are sorely lacking. I like memes that ask their questions in such a way as to avoid me being tempted to pick the answers that will give me the result that I'd like to get. Much more fun to be doing the quiz and wondering the whole time what the end result will be.

I try to answer the memes honestly in the face of the tailored questions, but it can get hard when the questions give you no wriggle room except to obviously lead to a particular outcome.

Let's face it, most memes are crap, put together by people with too much time on their hands and not enough care in their hearts.

Shaz and I own a van, so we often get roped into helping people shift.

Most recently we helped Tiki shift into her new digs. Tiki hired a 3 tonne van and we got pretty much everything shifted in one hit. It's one of the reasons I tell people to hire a van to move their stuff - it makes the whole job easier. A 2 or 3 tonne van is big enough to move most households.Read more... )

Tiki has been a great housemate. In fact, all the housemates Sharon and I have ended up with while living here have been good people. But there's one thing that makes Tiki stand out above all others...

She's leaving.

More specifically, she's leaving within the time period that we all talked about.

On previous occasions, when we've known someone who needed a roof over their heads, we've been happy to help out. But we've also been very specific - 'You can stay with us for x months, but we'd really like you out by then.'

I'm going to go into a rant here about the new Star Wars film. Now I want to make something clear - I actually quite liked it. I think it's a reasonable film and definitely the best of Lucas's recent efforts. And my major problem with it is not one that the Star Wars films alone are guilty of.

The rest is below the cut - be warned, there are spoilers - consider yourself warned. )
